Driving force British Car Days highlights Drive Away Cancer
LAS CRUCES — Jaguars will be prowling the Mesilla Valley this weekend, along with Austin Healeys and a variety of other exotic vehicles born in the British Isles. British Car Days — with fun events for owners of British vehicles (including British motorcycles this year) and the public, who will get to see the 20th annual regional British Car Days Show from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday on the Mesilla Plaza.
It’s one of a quartet of fiesta fun opportunities here this weekend, with events that celebrate everything from dance to street art.
“Class and Classic” is the theme of this year’s event, sponsored by the British Motorcar Club of Southern New Mexico, and there are events for British vehicle owners through Sunday at locations throughout the Mesilla Valley, including a luncheon and 2 p.m. Skeet & Tea on today.
In addition to the free public Mesilla Plaza car show, Saturday’s roster includes a Wine & Poker Rallye from 2 to 5 p.m. and a buffet banquet at 7 p.m. at Lorenzo’s Mesilla Tuscan Room with music by Hard Road Trio and guest speaker John Nikas.
“This year we have the distinct honor of including in the show John, who is an amazing man, and his ‘Grace,’ the wonder car of Drive Away Cancer fame and winner of the inaugural Mille Miglia,” said club member Peter Voris of Las Cruces.
